Don Walters is one of the main characters in Red Alert. And the first kid to be introduced. He’s one of the 4 kids that end up mysteriously transported to the world of Thrax. He is the support for the group, being the bridge between them and the feyh to have and understanding of each other and work cooperatively.

Appearance

Don wears a pair of black sunglasses that look vaguely familiar.

He has short somewhat messy white hair and extremely pale skin. His eyes are red, and are noted to have a slight shake to them as he has the condition of Nystagmus that is linked to his albinism. He has a slender build.

Don’s outfit in the beginning is a dark red zip-up hoodie with a black star in the center. He wears it along with black pants and red-and-white sneakers that resemble “chucks”.

During the events of his birthday Jamie gifts him a white-and-red hooded shirt with a white star and an alternating red star on the left corner of his shirt.

Personality

Don is introduced to the readers as a “really cool dude”. His incredible coolness is seen immediately in him casually being unbothered by the fact it’s his birthday, only briefly mentioning it in the beginning as a context filler for his extremely important plans for the day. This habit is continued to be observed as he goes on to explain a playlist of his own making and it can be assumed that Don often has an inner monologue of his life.This habit likely grew from watching too much TV.

We later see the level-headedness he expresses during situations, like calming down the fitzherberts when they began panicking about Dad’s absence. Despite all the distractions he seems to have a lot of awareness and takes things seriously if needed.

Don is the least bit forgetful, timing everything right to a T without a minute's waste. Remembering other’s schedules and ensuring to work around or with them.

He uses profanity by far the most out of the four kids in comparison, and speaks in strange quotes. Sometimes upsetting Jasmine with his devious humor, immediately apologizing to her.

Underneath the layers of unbelievably unbridled coolness Don is shown to be rather caring towards animals, having a routine of taking care of the strays near his apartment, having names for them and even remembering each one’s distinct habits.

He apparently does not follow any religion, describing his belief that "pretty much all religions are the same".

History

Don was raised by his guardian, Duke who is his father. It is suggested that they are impoverished, by the look of Don’s room having peeled and water stained walls then the front of their apartment building having bars on the windows. A lifestyle Don is far to used too since he’s lived no other way all his life.

On a freezing winter’s day Don befriended Jamie in a park after a sledding accident that made Jamie believe that Don was a ghost taking him to the afterlife. Fortunately, neither of these points were true and they have lived their lives as best friends since. Incorporating Don with the Fitzherbert family.

Relationships

Jamie Fitzherbert

Don and Jamie are best friends. Not one is seen without the other, and have known each other since early childhood. Sharing practically every interest, activity and day together. With some teasing as Jamie’s a huge nerd for 80’s movies and Don’s unabashed love for a particular white haired demon hunter. They do legitimately find each other to be the coolest things since flutter nutter and have a sense of humor only best friends can understand. Evidenced when Don’s first act of coming home is immediately awakening Jamie with a surprise attack and Jamie nonchalantly playing along like he had anticipated such events.

Jasmine Fitzherbert

Don is seen as more gentle towards Jasmine, immediately stopping to explain the situation at hand when she’s upset about the possibility of them waking up Dad and correcting himself after cursing from excitement. Don is fond of Jasmine, as growing up with her and Jamie hand in hand was status quo. He’ll be first to show her any accomplishments he makes ( or showering her with his music ) and sites her as the motivator for him to actually put effort during school since
“She doesn’t really see my vision of being a Walmart bag as a career”

Dad Fitzherbert

Affectionately coined in term of “Mr.Dad” from his professional suit wearing, hardworking business-man attitude that is endlessly supportive. It was the only appropriate to call him that. They have a casual and chill attitude towards one another. He’s honestly like a grown up version of Jamie so Don has no issues talking to him.

Duke Walters

His relationship with Duke is complicated. Beginning with that he refers to him by his first name, instead of calling him ‘dad’ or even ‘pa’ outsiders looking in wouldn’t even imagine that they are father and son. Duke is the only person seen to get on Don’s nerves and he clearly thinks negatively about. Not much thinking time is spent on him, Don just knows he doesn’t want to be anything like him.

• Don has developed a phobia of heights and stairs, specifically after an incident where he should have been careful around them.
• His Zodiac sign is Libra, in reference to Dave Strider’s Patron troll being Terezi.
